It feels NJM will pay anything without asking questions since they will eventually pass on the cost to their policy holders. If I would use a credit card, you charge me 3% additional, for an amount which is actually a cost of doing business, and should be entirely yours. GEICO brings you a lot of business, and to ask for cash only, or a "business certified check" is ridiculous. Why wouldn't a personal check be ok. My car was drivable and only needed the buffer done so having it for 12 days is very unreasonable. Fortunately for me, I had the opportunity to borrow a car or else added burden cost of rental car.
